is this normal

Post by alanfjones1411 »

After a ride of 10 to 30 miles when i put my bike away the cooling fan comes on but the gauge is only half way.I know thats what it's supposed to do but the only time in many years of riding this has happened before was with a zzr1100.Would it be that it's because the rads are mounted on the sides and not in front? Sometimes when i pull up at lights if they are a bit long winded the fan cuts in.Rads are clean and coolant bottle is full to correct level and idle is set correctly.

Do you know, in 15 years of ownership and many miles I've never known the fans to come on - I've checked that they work after changing coolant but I've never known them come on when or after riding!

On the TDM they come on regularly in slow hot town work.

Got me thinking now.......
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Own a Honda X-11 if you want to hear the fan kick in all the time, the bike doesn't take long to hit warm after starting it up from cold.

Mine kick in a lot this time of year .....but then I do sit in a lot of London traffic and I also have a fairing lower on which retains the heat. When in the really hot summer days I feel the heat more than hear it, the fan that is  It's like a hot hair dryer blowing.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. Just above the halfway mark and the fan kicks in.
