Check the battery as well - If it does't hold a decent charge ~ 12V then it needs replacing too.
What you are doing will normally help.
Cleaning out the carbs helps as well if the bike has been sitting idle for along time. (more the 3 months)

Let us know how you get on.

At least you won't have to buy a new battery as well then
I'd say a proper going over will sort out ur probs.

Logan

A tip I picked up on this site works every time for me....

Start the bike with NO choke, let it turn over a couple of times, then pull out the choke and hopefully it will kick in.

May take a bit of doing in this weather, but should work.

Get an Optimate trickle charger if haven't already, works a treat.

Let us know if this helps.

I do exactly the same too.
Turn it over with no choke a couple of times
Twist the grip twice
Pull the choke out and away she goes

1. switch on ignition
2. twist throttle wide open once and close fully
3. pull out choke fully
4. hit starter button
5. gently open throttle a bit
6. 30 secs close choke and maintain throttle.

now this works form me every morning in the cold
hot weather no choke needed at all

let me know if this works.............Paul
it may be clever, but its not big.

Hi Logan
I Agree with all of the above and do this as well and it'll start first time everytime
The letters were the same but the number had changed.
Instead of DRP9EV I had Been given DRP8EV. This jogged an old memory from my old RF900 days and how it would never go on cold mornings. I ran off to the old pile of manuals I keep (I like to think it's good referance material and I'm not a sad Old Get, thankyou )
Low and behold the DRP8 is a hotter running plug recommended for cold start and winter use.
Stick that in your Storm and Spark it Baby!!!
They worked a treat in the RF. I'll let you know how they go(or don't ) in the Storm
I've been using a hotter plug and it hasn't even hesitated on start up through all this crap weather. Check out what type you've got

Forgot to say had starting problems which turned out to be reg/rectifier, the battery was always fully charged, but cooked by reg/rect,
Try new reg and new battery........well worth the cost.
it may be clever, but its not big.
