Swinging Arm

Post by Stratman »

Hi all. My Storm is a '98 with 34,000 miles. No play or problems with the S/A so would I be wasting my time in removing it and regreasing?

Cheers

My sentiments exactly. You might want to have a look at the rear suspension linkages though. If the bike has seen a few wet roads they are prone (due to a lack of grease from Honda) to drying out and causing problems.

Do it anyway mate

As they leave the Honda factory they've cut costs by applying the bare minimum of grease.
Remove the rear shock linkages (and while you're at it remove the swing arm as well coz it only adds 5 mins to the job)
Check all the bearings and clean them up and re-assemble with plenty of grease
You'll notice the difference

Thanks guys. Just went and got some oil/filters etc from the local Honda dealer and I asked them. They said that checking it out certainly wouldn't be a bad idea.

So, that's Sunday morning sorted out then!

Stripped out the rear end last evening - all nice and lubed so wasn't really necessary but now I know its OK! Didn't remove the bearings to check them as some would need replacing anyway then and seemed pointless as well greased. I'll leave the accumulated oily crud around the area as it keeps water out anyway!
