Struggling to sync carbs

Post by Seeker 77 »

This is the very strange problem I am having. I was trying to sync the carbs because I get these coughs when I am riding. Completely miffed by what to look at

Ha ha you have to have the air box fitted and set the idle to 1800rpm

The ones by AMCQ. As a matter of interest why doesn't it run without the air-box? My KTM and GSXR ran fine without it!?

well its not happy to idle! were there flames coming out of the carbs? I kept seeing little flashes from the front carb when it made the noise.

could just have been the slide opening and the glint of the brass needle, but looked weird

looked again and defiantly flames..... you need to check the valve clearances as it looks like the combustion is leaking back into the inlet

This is what I feared.... I'm not worried about doing clearances, im more worried that this "9000 mile" bike has done far more.

Now I don't want to be at all negative, but one other possibility is that it's had a cct fail and the front inlets are slightly bent, closing up the clearances.
But on a positive note, if so that might mean that the mileage is genuine.

It's not a big one to fix, even if all four need replacing on that head, and I have valves if you need some. Just a head gasket to buy, plus some shims.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Give it a compression test to start with.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

Took the opportunity to remove the PAIR while it was all apart, that did nothing. Haven't got time to do a compression check and valve check this weekend, might take it on over Christmas leave. I find it very hard to believe that it's anything as serious as that, it runs well when it gets going and has plenty of top end. It just runs sh1t off a closed throttle when cold. I will put up with it for now until I get the time and motivation

Did you block up the little pipes from the carbs to the pairs ?
