Dont forget the washers!!

Post by mark2000vtr »

Hi all.Just a warning that may have been covered before but I have learned it the hard way. After doing the manual cct mod make DOUBLE sure you put the washers back under the CAM COVER BOLTS. I missed one off the front and one off the back cover.Bike ran lovely, but was pissing oil out at these two point,s. Sod,s law dictates that the front one was the top right one (when sat on the bike) which is impossible to get at without tearing the bike back down to get at it as those who have done the mod will know.Replacement washers only £2.25 from wemoto though and I have put instant gasket on the underside of the washer,s too to make sure. All good practice though I suppose!!!!

Another point that can be missed is the small o ring on the dowel under the cam cover if that gets missed the same effect will happen

What puzzles me is how can you miss the large washer on the rocker bolts as there are 4 and if one is missing the bolt wont seat correctly

if you are not too familiar with stripping down etc, simply place all the bolts on an old tea towel or something similar and then at the end its very clear if you have forgotten something.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

?
Dowel under the cam cover?
O ring?
Pics please, I can't recall ever seeing these.
The cam cover is located on the machined flat head mating surface with only the large rubber seal with four half moon sections moulded into it.
It's possible to have one of those misaligned, oil will leak out if so, but there's no dowel or O ring, iirc.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
