Hi there and thanks for letting me join , i'm the new owner of a 2004 Firestorm which i'm loving , unfortunately after reading the posts it seems a couple of mods are needed, cct and the rectifier . My mechanical skills go as far as as an oil change to spark plugs , so doing the job myself would be daft , has anyone info on approx costings to have the cct done in a workshop , anyhow time for work and Thank you in advance.

First of all welcome to the forum!

I'm sure others will say this, but I'll start.

Do the cct change yourself. I was in exactly the same boat as you and decided to give it a go for a few reasons

1) The guide on here is fantastic
2) People here and elsewhere are more than helpful
3) I wanted to learn more about my bike and get some experience.
4) By going it I could make other jobs seem easy.
5) It saves a lot of money.

I personally am very happy I just did it.

The other option would be to contact Mac and ask if you can attend the workshop day on 7th May. That way you will do it yourself but will be shown how to in person.

Hello and welcome to the forum.Like you i had never done hardly any spanner work, but as said the guide on this forum takes you through it step by step and i attempted it and done it by myself, but it took me longer than the time stated due to inexperience.Again as said see if you can attend the workshop day on Saturday where you will be able to do it yourself with expert guidance from experienced members.

Welcome to the club mate. The later finned rectifier is better than the early bikes version, but has been known to fail.
The CCT'S should be your first priority. Well worth having a go yourself after following the guide on here, carefully having read it a few times first.

If you want to come to the workshop day on 7th May at mine. Bazza will be bringing some of his converted CCT's...£45 IIRC. Fitting them is not difficult. On the day you will be wilding the tools but will have someone guiding you through the whole job.

There are some other Stormers coming along from down that way...

To paraphrase Mandy Rice Davis, ' they would wouldn't they '

MCCT or standard with stopper mod are the way to go. I also did mine, MCCT, with the help or the forum and I am NO spanner Genie.

Have ago allow plenty or time and bugger off and have a cuppa if it gets too much. Then come back refreshed and things often seem so much easier, simpler and quicker. D
