very dirty air filter can cause this situation or an airbox full of mouse and nest... Get Mcpestcontrol round to sort it

Check drain tube from the tank is clear, make sure that the vac tube going to the tap is not split, particularly at the end where is connects to the tap.
Check airbox for mouse nests.
Check fuel tap diaphragm.
Check tank filter.
If you have a K+N or other oiled filter fitted, it may have been over-oiled.

If not those, it's possibly a coil, or maybe plug, but check the above first.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

In addition to my VTR, I also have an ST1100 which I recently restored to a running condition after being parked up for 10 years with predictably clogged carbs/fuel pump. I thought I had a carburation problem as I had a stumble/misfire under load from 4k up, and spent a lot of time on the fueling system. The bike started and ran great at low revs, but bogged badly in the midrange.

Turned out that my problem was ignition related, and specifically I had low voltage going to the coils and so a weak spark. I traced the fault to a dirty connector that fed power to/from the right bar switches (red connector). You should be able to check for normal battery voltage to the black/white pin on the ignition module.

bit of a hijack but iv noticed mine lately can, hold back, not splutter or anything but if you wind it on to fast between 4/5k it just waits a second or so before it starts pulling hard. not really any other revs just at the overtaking handy revs you wana use :?: .
the older i get,the faster i was
