Thanks guys, I really appreciate that It was the blanked off one
I've not got a Vtr so I was stuck, I've also connected the lower/thermostat pipe to carb water feed straight to the water pump as there's no carbs to feed. Will that be ok?
It runs guys, it's alive. The word loud isn't loud enough feck me it's like a 1000cc motocrosser.
So sharp
First prod of the starter, it starts first time every time but it's spitting back so some fettling/reading will be needed.
I've videoed it but forgotten my youtube account details..
Excellent news, well done Vara
Chris.
Cheers Chris
I've done some reading & the spitting is due to a lean issue, so I've opened the pilots another 3/4 of a turn making it 2 1/4 out altogether. I've not started it again as it's really, really, really loud.
I'd say MotoGP loud, Christ knows what I'm going to do. There's no way this will be allowed to run on the Anglesey Circuit

That's lot of intake noise! Which side of the track are the drive by noise testers?
Good to get it running after all the work so far, a real milestone.

Thanks guys
I opened the pilots another 2 turns today making it 3 3/4 turns out altogether.
It now ticks over like a dream, I'd say 800rpm & the response from idle is shocking. I locked myself in the shed as it's way too loud, I think it's now rich as my eyes were stinging coming out of there.
Rule of thumb is if it's more than 2 1/2 out you increase the pilot jet size.. More reading required, but it's not backfiring anymore so I'm more than happy
Can anyone help concerning a cable/Varadero clutch actuator & rod conversion
I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or I've bought an engine with no gears in the box

Your right Kev, scary angry tbh
Like I mentioned above it's behaving a lot nicer with a few turns out on the pilots.
It'll be interesting to see how well it behaves on the road once I get it to engage the gears
It's got me thinking of a Weber IDF for the Varadero though

Thanks for the video, that was great to see and hear the beast fire into life
Just don't get close to the carb intake trumpets, you'll be gone for good
Chris.

I have a varadero clutch conversion kit, a vara sprocket cover and bracket plus an odd hydraulic/cable conversion setup that works well.
I tried it to see if I could stop the clutch grabbing without success.
The only thing wrong is that the lever has no ball end.
Any use?
If so, pm me your email and I'll send pics tomorrow.

I think I'm right in thinking that for the clutch conversion I need the following Tony? :-
A. Varadero sprocket Cover (complete with arm/actuator)
B. Varadero Clutch rod (longer, iirc) runs internally, from Varadero sprocket cover to clutch basket.
C. Handlebar mounted cable clutch leaver & cable with generator mounted cable bracket.
It all feels as if it's working, clutch in & select first or second & you can see the chain judder as if it's engaged. Let the clutch out & no drive.
Bad feeling about this

Yes, that's all you need.
As said, I have a complete kit

Sorry Tony, what I'm trying to get across is that I have all the bits & they were fitted to the build but it isn't working.
I fitted the above bits & adjusted everything as it should feel. When it was running I pulled the clutch in & clunked it into first & slowly released the leaver. Nothing!
I hopped off the bike & tried it again & you can see the chain "twitch" as I select a gear. I ran it through the gears & it's the same all the way through
So this morning I removed the sprocket cover/actuator to make sure everything was present & it was. So with the cover still removed I wheeled it out & selected gears & sure enough I could turn the engine over in gear. Then I pressed the starter whilst in gear & sure enough it drives me forward
I had a think & am wondering if it's a case of too long a clutch rod & it's not letting the clutch engage the gears (still half working) ? I'm going to have a look & a measure tomorrow, as well as connect the brakes just for safety's sake whilst I sort this out.
It's a feisty fecker & I'll need to stop it if it takes off I'd imagine no amount of feet draggin will slow it down if it does engage
