Idle Speed and Choke

Post by davebonline »

Got a couple of questions: firstly, what sort of revs should my Storm idle at, and is it OK to adjust this to help prevent stalling?

Secondly, I have to manually hold my choke on to start my bike, if I let go the choke switch thing retracts all the way back - shouldn't this stay in position?

thanks

1200 –1300rpm. While it wil happily idle lower have it slightly up a bit to keep it from stalling from carb farts in slow speed turns.

And tighten the choke adjuster where it mounts to stiffen the movement.

Unless the nut is split...Behind the choke plunger is a rubber boot. Pull this back & you will see a knurled plastic knob, trurn it to tighten up & it should make the plunger stay out...but they can split so it wont work as should. You can try to repair with epoxy glue...Honda in their wisdom dont make this a part you can buy seperatly...IIRC you can get the the first part as a whole as it runs down to a splitter...

As a very cheap & temp mesure, use a clothes peg to keep it out.

We could set up a cottage industry churning them out - Frank with his 8 arms could man a speedy production line meeting the demand!

Thanks all, already sorted before replies, found the plastic screw cap behind the rubber boot.

So where's the idle speed screw on the VTR chaps?

Muchly :)

Other side of bike between the frame rails by the coolant bootle region. Ideally find a child with small asbestos hands to turn the idle knob. Oo eeer...
