Track day project.
Track day project.
As mentioned else where I converted the bike to race shift today and over the next couple of weeks I'll be fitting a 98 Fireblade swinging arm brace & locating slot for a blade rear calliper bracket onto a Firestorm 'swinger'. I'll try to photo it all through the cutting and welding stages before fitting it into the bike.
Luckily I have a parts bike so can do all the work on a spare arm then just fit it into the bike, hopefully with an aftermarket rear shock.
Here's the starting point;
I'll try to update as each modification is done and the first track day gets closer.

Lots of pics
Re: Track day project.
Here's one that will hopefully be out of date soon, I'll be shopping on eBay for a standard top yoke so I can sell the Renthal bars complete with risers & drilled yoke.lloydie wrote:Lots of pics
I've already got some clip-ons so as long as I can get the break head bolts out of the lock we'll be fine.

It's not hard to get them out . Heat is good
Re: Track day project.
I've been getting the bits together to get the project under way including a 99 Fireblade swinging arm c/w calliper & carrier. I didn't fancy the idea of shortening the brace so decided to go with the blade calliper, the only problem is the guide inside the arm needs to be changed too.
I've picked up most of the 'bitsa' bike so now have lots of the basic stuff to really get moving including a standard Firestorm arm, now once the 'swinger' is completed it can go straight into the bike with new bearings and hopefully a decent shocker if one can be sourced in time.

Nice job , won't be long till your dragging a knee

Thanks, I just hope it's not both knees at the same time, like this.lloydie wrote:Nice job , won't be long till your dragging a knee
Mallory Pk 2008 at the test day launch of the inaugural Thundersport Championship. The guy on the right (shaking the beans!!) is Richard Shepherd, son of ex Factory MV Augusta racer & 70's tuning ace Terry Shepherd. He was impressed by my full twisting tsukahara, landing on my head in in the pike position!!!

I'll be having these powder coated too, no point in going to a track day in the UK without wet's on wheels!!

If it's a track bike , I wouldn't bother with powedcoat tbh as you'll be scared to drop it and it'll spoil your fun .

The front was from a aprilia rsv1000 milli .
Best front end swap you can do except the rsvr ohilins

Mmm, this wasn't a bad front end, I recon it'd look nice in a Firestorm too!!lloydie wrote:The front was from a aprilia rsv1000 milli .

Do it
Re: Track day project.
I'm keeping it as standard as possible for this year but possibly looking at some tuning and more extreme modifications for the winter and that Dook fairing on a Firestorm might keep a few people guessing!!lloydie wrote:Do it
