Hi,
It's time to replace my chain, but I nothing of the subject. I found a post on here where someone uses an X-ring 530 chain. What does that number mean and what's the diff between X or O ring? Also, I think the vtr is 102 links (correct me if I"m wrong) but many chains come in 110 or 120 links. Do I need a tool or something to make it the proper size? What do I need? I don't need a super high-performance chain. Just something similiar to the OEM one will do.
Thanks!
Scott

The 530 refers to the pitch (width) of the chain.
The other options are 525 and 520 which are generally used on less powerful bikes or for racing use as they tend to need adjusting more
So go for a 530 unless you really must have that racer chic
O ring or X ring is the type of seal that the chain has. The theory is that the X ring is superior having 2 sealing points compared to the o rings one.
I bought mine a couple of months ago from Steve at paddockstand.com. He gets them direct from B&C but at discounted prices and his service is second to none and I'd recommend him to anyone

I got the X-ring alpha chain with a 3 tooth larger rear sprocket and a 104 link chain but if you're going for a standard or +1 tooth rear sprocket you'll be wanting a 102 link chain
Hope this helps
