Fitting Art Oval Cans myself? HELP PLZ

Post by Squiffythewombat »

Hi All,

Ive just recieved kaz's old art cans and am gagging to put them on however my normal guy cant do it till the end of next week and the guy who was going to show me how is away! so......i think you can see where im going here, IS IT THAT HARD FOR ME TO FIT THEM?

As far as i can see, its a matter of the bolts on the footrest hangers, rear footpegs and then just slip the link pipes on, add a jubliee clip and bobs your uncle....? am i missing something? somebody mentioned wadding and stuff, should i be worried about this?

would love to get the cans on tonight if pos as im doing the hastings run!

Best Wishes, cheers all
Toby

Unbolt and bolt on.

It should be about that easy.
Just don't tighten anything up untill you have it all in place.

If Kaz's link pipes are connected you may need to loosen them off to make your life easy.

One more word of advice, if you are rushing to get them on for tonight, DON'T do it another day when you have plenty of time.

I believe that the Art cans need a gasket.
If you haven't got one phone Kaz and shout at her

Other than that its a piece of piss (provided the bolts holding your cans on haven't seized!!)

Fit them loose, the line them all up, (symetrically) before tightneing any bolts.

Oh & yes, put some gasket sealer in the joints.... Farting cans isnt big & clever....

thanks for all the help and tips guys, it took me about 3 hours, not because im a dunce (well i am) but because the original bolts have rusted into one massive block and not having a angle grinder i had to hacksaw the little gits off with a blunt blade too! LONGGGGGGG

anyway they are all fitted and sound AMAZING!!!! there is a few little air leaks as there were ment to be gaskets but these had rusted long ago so my trusted ye olde carboard trick worked well, im getting the gaskets and it all checked over on wednesday by my mecanics just to be sure!

I have also noticed that the bike is loads smoother between 2 and 5 thousand revs, ive only had a little blat on it last night, will be able to tell for definate today but definatly an improvement i think!

Don't want to put a damper on things but...........well I had Art ovals on and yes they sound great except for 06.00 am in the morning when leaving for work.
Oh and they invalidate your insurance too, cos not stamped for road use, not a real problem with Plod but I got paranoid about the potential insurance problems AND TOOK MINE OFF AGAIN.
They are sat in garage gleaming and teasing me each time I look at them.
Paul.
it may be clever, but its not big.

I read somewhere (lost in the mists of beer) that in order to avoid paying up, the insurance company have to prove that the cans materially affected the incident (whether theft or accident)
Might be dog's eggs, so check!

technically that's correct, if it cant be proven that they contributed to an accident, they cannot "do you".

However - what they can do, is decline indemnity for your own damage claim (due to "non disclosure of material fact") & invalidate/cancel your policy from inception. They'll almost certainly still pay any third party claim(s), and then if they're really on the ball, (depends a lot on the size of claim) then take YOU to the cleaners to recover the cost of the third party claim(s)........

Other than than....... you should be fine!!!!

(i work for an insurer.... the reaction to the above in real life is something else  )

Ps, Yup, i'se got loud cans!!!!!
