I have a swimming pool!

Thames Water called me Thursday and said we were using more water than normal.
We normally use 60 to 70 cubic metres, but this time used 718.
Thats the amount if water it would take to fill a pool two metres deep, twelve metres wide and 30 metres long.

Now all I have to do is find it.......
Speedos at the ready!

There's a leek team coming out Thurs, I assume they're all Welsh....

Couple of years ago when I lived in England we had our water on direct debit paying 50 a month or so as I like to be in credit. Nearly two years we were many hundreds of pounds in credit as the "spinny thing" was not turning as fast as it should? Anyway they told us they had to replace and monitor our usage for a month to see how much they would be refunding. Needless to say I stopped having showers and doing dishes for a while 😂😂😂

They then refunded us a nice amount of money as our usage was low.

Brought that up as the fella that replaced it said people usually have it the other way where the "spinny thing" turns too fast and they end up overcharged.

I'd guess that's what is up with yours

An engineer or digger bloke will be calling Thursday.

They'll be digging up somewhere or other until they find it, I guess.

The good news is that the insurance company have confirmed that I'm covered. The water board say they'll only charge me for the normal amount, which is a result...
So unless there are any "recalculations" I'll only have to pay the 350 excess.
Could be worse!

My folks just had this issue, leak in the drive somewhere. Waterboard fixed it FOC and reimbursed them their overpayments.
I was always under the impression that if the leak was the 'house side' of the meter, the water board deemed it the house owners responsibility. I don't know if it's because they're pensioners or the policy has changed but when they came out to assess the problem, they said that they would repair all the way up to the house, but do not go under.

Luckily it was just after the meter and they fixed it no problem.

Hope you're as lucky

Me too. That's the only worry with having a meter should you get a leak. Good to know your folks were well looked after. I hope you are as lucky Tony,

Chris.

I've had two leaks. The first one was noticed but never found when they installed the meter. So they replaced a length of pipe
If the leak is on the street side of the meter is is the councils responsibility. If it's between the meter and your house, it's yours.
Some waterboards will give you a discount (or even free) first repair. Then it's no holds barred the second time. Our usage was in the thousands. Luckily we had good insurance and only had to pay the excess.

Tony, don't be surprised if they send you a threatening letter and start legal proceedings to take you to court. It's standard procedure. I was well hacked off when I reported the leak and then they sent me a letter threatening me with court. I thought, What the Hell?? Amongst other things :D :D

Thanks, all.
Insurance have confirmed that we're covered, and Thames Water have told me that they have a leak Contingency fund that will cover the excess usage, so I'll be paying only the £50 excess on the ins, no matter what.
In some ways it would be best that they have to Kango holes in the concrete floor in the house extension- we'd have to have new carpets. But I suspect the leak will be on the pipe from the meter in the street to our house.

We'll see- they are due tomorrow 8.30 onwards.

Speedos at the ready.....No running or bombing :flasher:

Or maybe getting my rod out..........:Fish:

The leak is on the feed pipe from the meter in the street to our house.
They will come back to fix it 5th march.
Wonder how much water will be wasted by then?

Thats why water bills are so high....

That is shocking. You would think they'd make a leak a priority,

Chris.
