Idle speed

Post by Dazza2910 »

Had a look in the workshop manual to see how to adjust idle speed, but pictures but particularly clear.

Can anyone shed light on exactly where the screw(s) are that I need to adjust?

Cheers

Wasn't sure if the later ones were injected.

Thanks for that. I thought that's what it was but the page I was looking at showed pilot screws too. Been a while since I had a carbed bike so wanted to check!

Cheers

If you've not done so already sort the throttle position sensor then balance the carbs before you do the pilot screws. I left mine all year 'cause I was too lazy and only riding on track. The pilot screws were about right but it was always lumpy at tickover. A quick balance sorted that. Then I drained all the fluids and packed it away for the winter. What a Richard.

Throttle position sensor and carb balance might be a bit beyond me! But will look into that.

Sorry to bump this but just wondering how on earth I can adjust the idle?
My hands are too big to get more than one finger on the adjuster knob and there's no play at all so no chance of "flicking" it round.

I'm wondering if the screw may be seized - surely it can't be this hard to turn on purpose?

Any tips?
Thanks.

One finger is enough for me... Snerk, snerk , snerk.... 8O

Give it a spray with some lube...frnr frnr...

If your fingers are really to fat to do it.. Ooooh Mrs ! Then try a flat blade screwdriver...carefully...

I do the same as Mac using my middle finger (longest finger) to adjust the tick-over, and my hands are big too. I take XXL in all my motorcycle gloves to give you an idea

As Mac says some lubrication (WD40 or similar) on the adjuster threads could help,

Thanks. I'll pick up some penetrant spray today and give it a go. I fear that I'm still going to need to MacGyver some sort of tool to initially break it loose though.

Finally had success with a flat blade screwdriver "flipping" it round. Still a bit of a ball-ache and still no way I can do it with just my (apparently) puny fingers.
Thanks for the tips.
