hein garrick - returning leather stuff

Post by stu9000 »

Bought a nice new summer jacket for £150 the other week.
Stitching started to go on the zip.
No biggie, just get it changed I thought.

When I got to the shop I was told that standard procedure was to get it sent off to have it repaired. They did offer the loan of a jacket but I was pretty suprised.

If I buy something from HG surely they have enough confidence in their own stock to do a straight swop if there is an occasional problem.
But no, standard policy is to repair and return, even if the fault happened within a few weeks of purchase.

To be fair to the shop manager this is an edict from central office and I did get him to do the straight swop as was agreed on the phone but this rule applies to all leather goods.

Not happy, especially when I spent £70 on braided hoses only to find their the wrong ones (and I hate removing the fairing for no good reason).

So,,, we will see if they accept the return of these hoses.
Gotta say, if any HG staff are reading this, Ill think twice about buying leather in the future if the company cant honour the product.

I think if you look into it, regardless of their "policy" it is a legal requirement for them to replace any purchase of shoddy goods, whether the item was damaged when initially purchased, or as in your case, faulty. Do you have an office of consumer affairs over there? If something like this happens again, might be worth a phone call.

As for the hoses, if you've bought the wrong thing, it's legally not their problem, unless, they have incorrectly advised you on which product to buy. Either way, good luck!

Yeah, Ive always been pretty happy with HG up till now.
Staff v friendly too.
This is a new directive just being brought in.

As for the hoses, I asked for hoses for VTRfirestorm and got SP1's. I assumed it must be a component common to both bikes. I will be asking them to replace them.

Hopefully they'll be cool about it.

You asked for firestorm, they gave you sp1. Their bad = They're responsible. Sure they'll be replaced... Good luck though!

Afternoon all, been lurking long enough decided to post. I know its a bit late to answer this, but i will anyway.

Stu9000, which Hein Gericke store did you go to? As i work for the Maidstone branch and to be fair if the jacket is under a month old we just change it, straight swop or you can upgrade to a different jacket. The same goes on pretty much all HG gear as unless otherwise stated it carries a two year warrenty, and as far as i'm aware so long as you have your receipt its all groovey.

Really puzzled why they went down that route with you, as i know H/O are getting strict on returns but, hmmmm , dunno.

Did they change the lines ok?

Anyhoo if anybody is in the Maidstone (kent) branch Hein Gericke i'm the speccy one with the red Storm.

Evening all, thanks for the welcomes, been lurking and reading and lurking, thought i'd post something, can't promise it will all be logical or even co-herent but i'll do my best.

Discount? erm not sure what that word means  although we can be competative on things like exhausts/luggage and bolt on goodies. Plus if you look in this weeks MCN we've got a competition going on to win an R46, won't say more than that for fear of upsetting admin, (i'm new so i don't know the boundries.)

Anyway if your ever in Maidstone, i'll make sure the tea/coffee is on.

thanks again

jacket and lines

Post by stu9000 »

gotta say Ive always got on with Hein Garricke too.

Got the jacket replaced, then they called back weeks later to tell me to pick up my repaired jacket. Could have had two for the price of one but was in a good mood and decided to play fair.

As for fitting the braided lines. HG suggested i have another go and that they might be the right lines even though it said sp1.

I guess it was me that was the idiot cos they do fit my vtr, but was quite tricky and a little different from standard set up. Left and right line go straight up to the resovoir.

Nice tip is to bungee the clutch leaver closed over night to remove any air.

Brakes hardened up a treat, which is a good thing cos a white van pulled out from nowhere onto a dual carraigeway, right across me with no where to go. I bled off most of the speed but still hit him. now hes paying for all new fairlings and a new light, mirrors, bar ends and the rental on a loan bike.

I think if it had happened with the brakes as they were i would have hit a LOT harder and it would have HURT.

Hi peeps,
I can't find fault with Hein Gericke, my leathers were over 10 years old and the main zip broke. I e-mailed HG and they offered to repair free of charge, when I said I could get the job done locally - they sent a new zip in the post.
They didn't have to help at all, when you consider I bought the leathers ages ago and in Germany!!!
And with the new zip in place they are as good as new, which also shows the quality is pretty good.
