VFR800 SSSA conversion

Post by KingNog »

Hi again everyone
I've collected up a VFR800 wreck that has yielded a usable rear end and front wheel. Popkat has put me straight on the front wheel fitment, but I'm hoping to get some guidance on fitting the SSSA, specifically around which linkages work and spacer machining. If anyone with first hand experience or knowledge of a suitable thread here is reading this id be grateful for a steer. Also, if anyone in the southwest UK can recommend a capable engineering business that have experience with this type of work that would be ace. Whilst I'm fairly capable with spanners and hammers and blowtorches I have no machining capabilities. I will be starting a build thread with this bike shortly, I'm still collecting the bits for now. Cheers all.

I can't help with info, but look forward to your build thread. Too ambitious an undertaking for me though!!

Have a search - It's been done a few times so there's bound to have been a thread or two providing info.

I've taken a poke about in older threads and searched on SSSA themes but I'm cursed with the attention span of a 6y/o. Also, my web access is currently limited to a Kindle which, whilst not wanting to be rude to Amazon, is a pretty sh*t tool for the job. I guess I was optimistically hoping a Bristol based engineer with extensive experience of modding Firestorm suspenders would find my post and immediately adopt me and my project. Anyone.....? No...? Oh well. I appreciate the pointers Wicky, thanks.

I spoke to an engineer in the South West last week about getting the appropriate spacers made for the swing arm and vfr800 front wheel. It seems the rear shock dog bone also needs to be replaced with a custom item. Depending on cost I might get more than one set made up, although I'm still hoping to find someone through here that has had this work done already....

More like nerdy librarian pointing at the 'S' Section for everything related to singles, sexual perversions, swinging, swing arms....

I appreciate The input thanks but I'm struggling to find two separate versions of what work is required that match TBH, or any specific dimensions of spacers, links etc. One guy on the superhawk forum wasn't even bothered if his wheels aligned so I may not go there again😐.Idiot septics. I know the work is fairly simple, and I know plenty of people have had it done but I cant find anyone with first hand experience who can tell me for sure exactly what needs doing, what works and what doesnt. I lack the patience to trawl through thread after thread of vague glossed over accounts of what's required, I'm getting suspicious that some folk don't do their own work as they may have you believe. Onwards and upwards though....
While I'm here, can anyone confirm which year VFR750/800 front wheels are a direct replacement for the 'storm? As in, no spacer changes, no caliper spacing issues, direct like for like swap?

That's great, thanks very much. I struggle to find what I'm looking for in specific threads because I have attention deficit issues which turn pages of text into an impenetrable fog of words, so I genuinely appreciate all the input and pointers.

Yeah, sorry about the impenetrable fog of words, but I mean well.

Does anyone know if you can offset the swing arm to put a fat rim on?

There’s a guy on YouTube that done it to a CBR with a spacer on the right hand side.
