Hi all,
Popped into my local honda dealer today to find out how much they wanted to balance my carbs and MOT the storm.
The guy service guy was quite shirty. My bike has a K&N filter and Dynojet stage 1 - currently on standard zorsts for the MOT - but I'm planning on fitting some road legal aftermarket cans after the MOT.
Anyway - long story short - he started going on about having to replace the shims in order for the bike to pass the MOT - then he stated saying it was going to be 300.00 for parts + MOT + labour! Is this rubbish - or is he telling me the truth?
Shocked - to say the least - then I asked about the forks - how much to sort the oil and valves - was told there's nothing I can do except replace the springs.
So - my question is how difficult is it balance my carbs ? I'm concerned at the noise I'm getting from the clutch when it's ilding and the clutch is out. Have been told balancing carbs might help.

Carb Balance
1999 Firestorm - Red - Dynojet Stage 1 - K&N filter - Remus Cans (was Scorpion).
Re: Carb Balance
I can't see that replacing shims has anything to do with the MOT, not unless exhaust emissions have now become part of the MOT, like the car test. But if it has its news to memattbridges wrote:Hi all,

Somebody kindly recommended this little clever carb balancer to me (link below) which I got. I don't know how good you are with mechanic's on the bike, but if you are mechanically minded this might be just the job

Think I'll give roger a call about the forks - cheers
On the shims etc I think either the guy throught I knew nothing or he didn't understand what I was after - hard to say - but I'm going to go to my tried and trusted garage (non-honda dealer) to get the bike MOTed and serviced.
Fraisers in Gloucester - like them a lot - friendly - helpful and don't try to rip you off.

is the price for a full engine service 16 thou 32 thou ect, you should expect them to take the cams out and replace any shims for that price. If you find somewhere which is willing to charge by the hour you might find they will just measure the valve clearances and if they are with in tollerance they will just leave them be and not charge you for it.(Fowlers
of Bristol have a fixed pricing scheme and will charge you regardless
)
it is not required to either pass the MOT or balance the carbs. .
