It seems to be as of 2001 onwards.I bought 2003 tank off eBay and bolted it onto my 1997.
Now, beware of few expensive parts of this process
1. Try to get tank with petcock. 19 l petcock is totally different from 16l and not interchengeable. New petcock assembly from Honda cost breathtaking 150 Euros.
2. You will need 2001+ fuel hoses and vaccuum pipe (well - that just flexible small diameter hose). pre-2001 hoses too short.
3. You will need to cut out a small piece of plastic from plastic base of seat - from front piece that goes into slot....
Rest is just straight swap.

What's a petcock?
The 2001 model was indeed the only main revision in the Firestorms history, besides the larger tank the graphics changed and the Frirestoem logo moved from the tank to the fairing, it got new clocks and revised for internals. I seem to remember some bikes round about that time having silver wheels as well but I'm not sure if they were just imports or not.

Oh Bluesman, you could have come up with a much more imaginative answer than that...

the reason why the parts fiche says petcock rather than fuel tap is that when japanese is translated it is done into american english not proper english

"Petcock" is the name used for the petrol on/off tap in aircraft too. Short version that stands for Petrol rock (like a water Stop rock etc)
....................... I'll get my coat shall I ?
