funny whineing noise

Post by adstar »

Hey everyone.

Recently given my storm a major service including replaceing the CCTs (sounded rattly at 2500-3000 rpm) and checked valve clearances. Anyway, the CCT rattle has gone but something funny has started to happen...

When riding along when I get to 70 mph I can hear an audible whine. I I back off it slows down until I stop. Almost as though something is rubbing. I have tried different gears ec but that doesn't seem to make a difference to the sound, or does pulling the clutch in - it is still there if I hit the kill switch and coast along for a bit so I am pretty sure it is not engine.

that leaves several things to my mind:

Chain - fitted a new gold heavy duty X ring chain less than 1000 miles ago but I think its fine.

Tyres - they are absolutely shagged - rear needs changing now (no tread at all) but would be surprised it the tyres would make such a noice. Will change his weekend anyway.

Wheel bearings - I did I have a small whine from the front on the bike a couple of times on sweeping bends which I suspected might be wheel bearings???

Rear brake pads are low - maybe rubbing?

Something else rubbing????

Any ideas guys?

I tried to check the front wheel bearings but couldn't feel anyplay...

Thanks,

Adam

i think it could be to do with your chain and sproket that you just changed

when taking off the front sprocket cover you would of noticed the rod that activates the cluch ?well i think it has to do with that the reason

i say this is because mine is doing the same another thing i notice its worse in top gear (12th) there is not as much strain in top so diffrent noise

ok confesion time i dont know for sure but i am away to investigate lets find the answer adstar

yeah i noticed the rod... Took the cover off last night to have a look cos I was worried but don't know if anything is wrong. Its worth pointing out that I changed the chain and sprockets 4 weeks ago and didn't have any noise until after I had finished changing the CCTs...

Funnily enough when I took th clutch cover thingy off and put it back on this morning I had to pull the cluch all the way to the bar for it work - was like that all day until I turned in sharp (left) into my road and it returned to normal 2 inches from bar for the action bit. Does that make any sense???? It was as though some buuble had escaped of something had got moved by the sharp left turn...

If it was the clutch would it make a difference if it was in or not -no difference for me...

If your chain is to tight that will cause a whirling effect :!:
