Moriwaki VTR on the road at last

Post by kingster »

Well, as those of you who are on the "list" will know, I have finally go the bike finished and on the road.

After 3 days riding and 4 tanks of juice, I have come to the conclusion that I have got my perfect bike! - well almost...

Here's how she looks -
Image

The spec is as follows:

Spondon modified frame
Spondon swinging arm
Spondon rear-sets
Spondon clip-ons
Harris underslung caliper
Harris yokes
Ohlins forks
Brembo gold calipers
EBC pro-lite discs
Penske shock
OZ wheels
Moriwaki stage 1 cams
Moriwaki Pistons
Moriwaki clutch springs
Moriwaki race carbs
Moriwaki velocity stacks
Moriwaki titanium exhaust headers
JAC Titanium exhaust cans
Oversize valves
Revolution porting/gas flow
Modified airbox
Fireblade master cylinder
Hel brake lines
Aprilia Mille carbon front mudguard
Skidmarx Moriwaki-style belly pan (cheapskate, maybe should get the real thing eh?)

It's taken me over a year, including the engine re-build.

Last year I was getting really fed up and wonderd why the fcuk I was wasting so much time on money on a bike that was out of date and not worth what I was spending.

Well, this weekend answered all of those doubts.

It power wheelies in 2nd, handles like a Triumph Daytona 675 (only recent personal comparison I can make) and stops on a sixpence (showing my age now).

Basically, it's fekin mint! and I am sooooooooooooo happy. No way I could have bought this bike from a shop.

It has something special and it is truly unique.

Only minor gripe is that the rear-sets are a bit cramped.

Hope you like it as much as I do and sorry if I am coming across all smug and smarmy.

That was the plan, always wanted it to look std until you got a closer look. Plus, really loved the std VTR, but thought - with a bit more poke, better handling and better brakes, this could be one hell of a bike - and it is.

Just need to tweak the riding position as my mate's SP1 is more comfortable!

Ahh, well, those on the "VTR List" will know about the slippers ;-)

Thanks for the comments, still can't stop grinning from ear to ear and can't wait for home-time!

It's going on Roger's dyno (Revolution Racing) on the 12/13 May, hoping for 125 at the wheel, as that's what Roger reckons a stage 1 will do.

Fuelling isn't spot on, as there's a few minor low down flat spots, so looking forward to getting it fully sorted.

It does launch nicely at about 6-7k tho! Even had the front wheel off the deck (only just) in third off the power. Giggled like a kid in a sweetshop. It is geared for acceleration mind (15/42) and the Spondon arm has a lot of room to move the wheel back (to stop the front end going so light), but to be honest, I love it!

Hell of a job mate.
Do you have a favourite bit?

I just love the look of those wheels :P

Also, have you got any pics of the cockpit/ bars bit?
Just interested to see how they're mounted

Did you have it on Dyno already? Just curious...

Must admit I am chuffed with the wheels and forks, they make such a difference over the old ones I had. The steering is light yet precise and the lighter wheels mean it turns quickly without dropping in too much, just love it. I've always liked the look of OZ wheels and drooled over Ohlins for years ;-).
Also, have you got any pics of the cockpit/ bars bit?
Will post some detail shots soon Ben.

The motor came with a Dyno graph showing 124 at the rear wheel, but I can't find it! So will have to wait until it goes on Roger's Dyno in May.
