I have an 03' with standard pipes and mufflers and would like to keep that look. I am concidering drilling a small hole in the baffle in the middle of the muffler to get a little more sound, but don't want it to craclkle or whistle.
Has anyone try this before??
Muflers,.. Standard units ... should I drill them?
I did it to mine, sounds so much better than with the baffels in, my mates got some micron race cans and they sound as good as that, the main benefit is that if you get stopped by the cossers youve got a perfectly legal set of cans on the bike that are for road use
Ive got a link to an excellent guide for doing it, ill put it up when i get to work tomorrow.

Thank you Andrew.. just what I needed..

UPDATE: I looked at the construction,.. and chose not to cut out the back of the muffler.
Instead.. I have put a very long 3/8" rod with a sharp point into the mufflers,.. and punched two holes through the baffle. one up & one down.
The top end performance has picked up and the exhaust tone has more punch and a crisper note.

The sale of after market mufflers for bike has halted completely.
