mine does this occaisionally if I dont line it uo right (I think its right, but it cant be)
Have you got anything under it? Toolkit? Manual? A chain or something?
Have a re-pack and try again.
I find standing behind the bike, place the seat on and check the hooks either side are lined up, then push it forwards and down works best.
If it's still not locating right, there might be something up with it, check the locking bits (2 of) lube them up and stuff.
If that still doesn't work, I can't think why it's not...

Just reading this post reminded me that someone on here ages ago said that bending the two metal hooks under the seat forward by a small amount helped a lot, I think it was only 6mm (1/4 of an inch) if you are careful it wouldn't hurt to try it I wouldn't have thought as if it didn't help you could always bend them back to their original position. Perhaps someone else remembers. I've not tried it myself as I don't really find it a problem, well not yet anyway

Right guys after a far amount of searching and a bit of luck I found it

Your link helped Pete to trigger off another thought, which lead me to the post I was originally hoping to find, (I thought it may have been lost when the site went down) see link:-
