Fuel p*****g out all over the place!!

Post by glynmitch »

Took off my fuel tank today to check out the flickering fuel light problem that I have. My brother turned up and managed to confuse me completely by pulling off all the hoses from the fuel tap and then buggering off leaving me to put it all back together :x Not happy to say the least.

Anyway, I put the hoses on the way that I thought they came off and proceeded to start the bike. There was fuel p*****g out all over the floor from the overflow pipe from the tap. Phoned brother and asked what to do and asked him what position the tap should be in as he had fiddled with that too. He was unsure

Moral of the story is don't let ham fisted brothers interfere with yer bike!

The worst bit is though, that I managed to get the fuel to stop by turning the fuel tap round a bit. Pulled on my leathers to go for a blast and then spluttered to a stop about 1/4 mile down the street. Ended up pushing the bike home

Can anyone help me out here?

There's 3 connections on the fuel tap

2 big hoses come out 1 either side and feed the cards
I'm guessing its one of these you've not connected (the nearside one often drops down and gets hidden behind the frame)

1 smaller hose comes out SIDEWAYS and is the vacuum that makes the diaphram work

The bit sticking down is just there to confuse people into putting the vacuum hose onto (hands up all those who've done that?? )

The tap only has 2 positions -stop and go
Can't remember off the top of my head but if you've stopped after 1/4 mile then its likely its in the stop position

Hope this helps
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!
