Missing from 6K and Up - an Important Note!!!

Post by CountryBoy »

Please Note!!, Don't be left feeling like a stupid person (like me!)

If you have a problem with an apparant misfire from 6K and up CHECK YOUR TIMING PROPERLY!, i've just spend several months trying to sort my bike after a front CCT failure which a 'garage' 'fixed?' for me.

When checking/setting the timing the you MUST set up the opposite cylinder to timed and then turn the engine through the correct amount of turns before setting the other cylinder.

For example to set the front timing - set the engine to RT first!, check the rear timing marks are correct ie. RE & RI on the outside edges of the cams in line with the top of the casing, then turn the engine through 450 degrees or one and one quarter turns, you should then see FT line up with the static mark, now set the front cams, FE & FI on the outside edges again level with the casing.

You must do this other wise you could be 180 degrees out like i was, the engine will still run but will develop a nasty missfire above 6k.

Thanks for reading, if i've got any of these details wrong or not quite complete i'm sure one of the tech guys will soon post a correction.
I can't read nor rite but i can drive a tracor!

:D Really pleased its fixed mate, and I can only assume that the mechanic who did mine the first time got it wrong too.....
Hopefully this will mean nobody else has to go through the same problems!

Now if only I could sort the brakes and handling on mine it'd be perfect
