Power Loss

Post by pmcq »

Lads,

I have just rebuilt my other bike, an R6. It started up no problem and I've been breaking it in fairly gently. The other night however, on a spin I started to lose power. I pulled over and the bike cut out. I had to turn the starter over a good few times but eventually it started but it ran like a pig. I managed to coax it home. I decided to investigate yesterday. When I started it up, all 4 exhaust pipes heated up straight away... so all 4 plugs appear to be firing. I had a look at the plugs are they appeared to be slightly oily. I cleaned them all off and it was back at full power. However I let it run at idle for a couple of minutes and it was fine. I then twisted the throttle a bit and could hear it starting to lose power again. Almost as if the plugs were being fouled. Trying to decide what to do next. The bike has run perfectly (albeit under 6000 rpm witha few 10000rpm bursts) for about 500 miles. It is due its oil change very soon. The bike has 13000 miles on it. I kept the old piston rings. Maybe some new plugs and air filter (due a change). I am just suspect about the oil on the plugs.... hmmmm.

Hi,have you or anyone behind you noticed if the bike is smoking badly,if so the rings could be buggered and that won't do your power any good.
Also could be oil coming down your valve stems and into the cylinder,i'm sure someone else will have some better answers, hope you get it sorted.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it!
