Driving aroung the city I get 125 km before gas light comes on is this normal.

I would have expected at least another 16km before it came on. Has your bike got a smaller front sprocket??

I see several causes.

-May be a small sprocket as Al said
-an old chain
-A dirty air filter

-driving in a city or making many stop and go and brutal accelerations

I've got the same problem when i drive very fast or when i make to many wheelies...
You 'll have a real problem if the next time the gas light comes on so early.
