stormy 1, I should not worry mate. Firstly we all know how reliable these journalists views are. Many of them clearly dont know what they are on about and write there articles based on nothing more than reading other peoples articles. Secondly I liked the fact that the Storm does not have a super trendy image. This has many benefits. How many *rseholes do you see riding Storms. Exactly, they have all been and bought Blades, R1s etc like it says in the magazines. Another benefit is that because they are not super trendy Storms are fantastic value and you get much more bike for your money compared to the sheep who cant think for themselves. It was a deep source of joy for me to pass more expensive, faster bikes on my little old Storm.

So really we should be thanking PB for not letting the sheep know what a great bike the Storm is !!!

storms and PB

Post by Robbe »

I read the latest PB, first thing i did was look at the Dyno chart for the st1 over a stock storm.
They reackon 97bhp for a stock storm. Was at a VTR dyno day on saturday at Revolution(who tuned the ST1 storm in PB). The least we saw was about 104bhp from a storm. Granted most were running cans with a Dynojet kit and air filter fitted.
Most out of a storm on the day was 110bhp(last year it was 112bhp).
So its easy to tune em.
Only 1 mag ever rated the storm and that was Superbike, cos one of the journalists(sp) went out and bought one.
Like ppl say, cos it aint a GSXRCBRRZXR it aint worth glancing at.
I like mine, does every thing i want and since the suspsension got tweaked it dont tie it's self in a knot when pushed.

As for the dyno day, GSRX1000's when lightly tuned can put out 160bhp!!!!
SV1000 with carbon cans was putting out 115bhp.
916 with a dry clutch sounds like it's well broken.
Triumph carbon race cans are very very loud!

mine was one of the 112's last year

Well 111.98 anyway, with ART Cans and a BMC Filter + Dynojet kit. Some of it depends on the dyno its being measured on and which figure they take.

Most of the mag articles I have read over the last few months with a new storm in put it in the 97 - 98bhp territory so maybe its the newer storms that are a bit down as stock?

Worst I have ever seen from a Storm is Neilo's with Migs but it was fecked anyway, him and Roger new it :-) I think that was around 102 at the wheel.

My Mille put out 128rwhp with a power commander, BMC Filter on a sealed airbox, Full Micron system (Developed on my bike) and about a week on the dyno with Andy at Hants Rolling Road (now defunct). The Mille did not feel much quicker than the storm until it hit 7k then it buggered off. On a head to Head with Rod Kent his Storm would outdrag the Mille for a few seconds on a roll on from around 50MPH in top.

Horses for courses I suppose :-)

now the controversial bit.....(Kevlar on) I am on my second storm, and they aint the most glamerous thing on the road, but they have a good lump and do most things well are pretty reliable and dont fall apart after a winter, a bit like a VFR.....but with character....oh! and a bad tank range :-)

Write LOL

Post by Fluffy »

I can spell check m8, not write :-) I was a grunt for 17 years so I would be a bit to opinionated for a mag :-)

Just telling it as I see it m8, not rubbishing a storm at all, like I said I am on my second one (having gone Buelling and then to a Mille in between) and Delboy is on his 300th :-)

What I would say is that blokes and blokettes like us here on the chatboard and over on the VTR list are more an exception to the rule when it comes to VTR ownership. There must be a few thousand VTR's in the UK and they aint all gonna be modded etc like the majority of folks on the board. So taken in isolation, PB's comments are not to far wide of the mark.

There are Storms out there like Delboys Moriwaki / Spondon / Streetfighter and Daz Sears carbon bodywork / ducati running gear / one off underseat sytem etc that are almost a work of Art (or ART In Daz's case LOL). There are some tidy, well set up, race canned / tweaked storms here. For every one of them there are probably 200 more in bog standard trim, no tweaks to the suspension (a Storms main weakpoint) and wiv standard cans on that sound like an asthmatic goldfish with flatulence :-)

One things for certain though, not only PB, but Supertits and bike magazine have had storms on minor tests over the last few months and not one of them cracked 100 bhp on their respective dyno's. Maybe the big H foobaared the airbox on the later models with getting that bit of extra fuel in? Anybody had there post 2001 bikes (HISS and the larger tank) on the dyno in standard trim and want to comment?

Cheers folks

Wayne's ('02 model) if I remember was dynoed at 108rwhp or somit, Wayne help!, that's was with everything standard (incuding Pair injection shite etc) except for a set of high level Devils (now on the BB). No rejet or anything. It popped like a b8stard, bit lean me thinks. But 108 for just cans is more than healthy especially with out any jetting and with a standard filter.

yeah ya can!! the stuff I have in the loft is good for 150rwhp but only did mine to 122 so I could bounce it off the rev limiter @ 9500rpm all day long without it going pop. Tuned mine for mid-range to make advantage of the torque. Gis a go then
