Oil level.

Post by yellowtrev »

Hi everyone,

Is the only/best way to check the oil on a storm, is to put it on a paddock stand and jack up the front? :?
How do you know the bike is level? :?
Use a small spirit level? Where? :?

Many thanks. :)

No need. Get some level ground. Put bike on sidestand. Lay down beside bike and pull front brake on. Tilt bike till you feel the balance point, check level.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

just to add...

dont check after bike stood in garage for a few days - run bike then stop it and wait a few minutes as the oil flows back to the sump.

Also - if you had my bike - check the level often, 'storms burn a bit of oil if used + old !!! , mine can use a litre per 1000 miles if chasing r1's...

Mine doesn't use much either - maybe one top up per 6000 mile season, half way through, then I change the oil and filter before each spring anyway.

Mine uses a lot of oil sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Can't figure out what makes it use oil. I've done hard weekends and it wouldn't use any then go over to Europe last year, did a full day on the autobahn steady 100 to 120 in top gear and it used about 1 liter. Last Dyno graph didn't show up any problems so I just except it now and fill up when getting low.

Round about 4 litres, manual says 3.9 ltr. I have just done mine and it took around about the 4ltr.
