Do the exhaust gaskets REALLY need replacing each time the system is removed?
Silver quoting £31 seems alot,especially if un-necessary.
I know Haynes recommend it, but I just used some exhaust sealer, the paste type in a tube, I've had no problems since (I have a feeling it's called muffler paste) Most motor factors will sell it.
I think the majority of after market exhausts (the ones where you still keep the standard Storm header pipes) don't use any seals, but the original system does The joint between the swingarm and where each silencer pipe connect to the headers on the original system have, I don't know what it's made from, but it appears to look like a graphite impregnated fibre type of collar or sleeve, which providing you are careful when pulling the system apart so you don't damage them, you can reuse them,
Ah yes Chris i know what you mean if you break it apart its like a type of fiberglass/material looky like thing im still unsure wether i had these when i stripped my system, but like you say use an exhaust paste on these joints, this is what i do but on the manifolds the copper type.
P.S wasnt sure if Trev was about to be ripped off or not or was qouted for the exaust clamps and not seals

I quite agree with you Alan, that price he was quoted was definitely IMO enough, but not only that, if he is going to fit after market can's etc, more than likely if he had bought them, he wouldn't have needed them all, he would have probably only used two

Chris.
Chris is spot on.
Just be carefull and you'll be alright. The most common one to go is the one between the swing arm( about eight inches down the pipe from the head) it takes the most heat and stress. All the seals can be bought separatly as well, so if you only need one you don't have to get the whole kit
just use clear kitchen silicone sealant if its aftermarket, thats about all you will need. just leaves you with the one in the swing-arm and the two header ones to buy.

Thats exactly what Blueflame recomend on there pipes!!!!
I never used it on mine but did on my sons race quad.
