Anyone got any tips for cleaning up Fork sliders

Post by Red »

My storm is only spoiled by two things imho. She has a bit of rust on the subframe, which I will eventually get around to, but the other thing is she has a lot of pitting on the fork sliders.

What would anyone recommend to clean up the Fork sliders. They seem to be made of an alloy and I don't want to wreck them altogether.

Your help would be much appreciated :?:

If you are talking about the fork stanchion(the chrome part of the leg),give them a rub with some wire wool and then spray them with wd40 and rub the excess up and down the leg. That should solve the problem, but you will need to do this every time you wash the bike.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it!

wet n dry paper. polish with autosol. then spray with a couple coats of clear laquer...this will inhibit more pitting and will make them easy to wipe clean. :)

if it is the stanchions then becksters advice is good.....wd40 will stop the stanchions from pitting/rusting.
Keep it gutter...Keep it grimey..........one!

i have just done mine, i took the front wheel out, fender off etc
then gave em a coat of nitromorse to get the old laquer off.
Put a small copper brush on a flexi drive in my drill and got all the old dust and crap off.
Polished em up with autosol then a couple of coats of laquer.

I am no expert but they look a damn sight better than they did.

And it was cheap !! :D
sh1t HAPPENS !!!
