my starting problems fixed!! could this be sticky soon???

Post by KarlosVTR »

now as we all know, the humble vtr firestorm is prone to a few problems, CCTs, iffy forks, and so on.

the proble which is the crimp of them all is the starting problem. ths has to be the worst problem of all because if you have no running bike, you may as well have a pile of raw materials sat there on the yard.

Q: the problem

it wont start, starter churns like it has hardly any power in the battery but its full.

starts intermittently absolutely fantasticly or vica versa

sound familiar? it does and did to me

A: the solution

it has been said that it could be the threaded pole pin which was absolutely fine on mine so i investigated further.

the commutator was covered in thick black deposits of graphite, causing a bridged gap, and worst of all 2 of the 4 brushes were ceased in place, not even touching the com.

a healthy clean and polish of the com, freeing up the brushes and such has given this motor a new lease of life. its like new, not even the merest hint of a struggle to start and, best of all, it was free to fix.

its like 2 cylinders full of mixture dont exist to it any more

hope this helps anyone before they start buying expensive stuff they may not need

safe riding

Karlos
