Caliper bolts.

Post by yellowtrev »

Hi everyone,

Took my front wheel out to have a fresh tyre put on and in the manual it advises to replace the caliper bolts.

May seem a silly question but are they 'special' material bolts, hardened steel or similar?

Or can i just go to an engineering supply shop and get 4 bolts, same size, thread etc? :?

Many thanks.

No need to replace the bolts. and yes, they are special HT ones.

The Honda ones are pre treated with a Loctite compound. You can clean up the old ones with a wire brush, degrease them with meths and use Loctite to "lock" them no problem. I have done this with mine many times without any problems. Just make sure you torque them up correctly.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

bit o loctite on the end and a smidge o copperslip up the thread as this will stop corrosion that will make them difficult to remove next time...VeetyR

Coppaslip?
Loctite?

Nah, I've not used either
Just torque 'em up to the right settings and away you go (NB I dont clean them up either :) )
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!
