The old ones are the best
I got offed by a 4X4 on Thursday evening. Fortunately, it was as low speed as you can get without being stationary, so no injuries. I was waiting to turn left at a T junction and big boy pulls up alongside me, also turning left. When it's clear, I start to pull away, only to be shunted onto the pavement. His first words? You guessed it - "I didn't see you..", which he followed up with "... come up on my inside." I didn't get chance to put him right as he got handbagged by the driver of the car behind his who put him right big time and gave me details to be a witness. Thank you, Ma'am!
L/H fairing cracked, clutch lever now in the shape of a question mark, gear selector bent, indicator broken, exhaust scuffed. All very tedious. Poor bloody bike - it's been through the last 2 winters and with this latest blow is looking very sorry for itself. I may not be allowed to park with the rest of Redditch IAM this Sunday! Very nice bikes. Very, very nice bikes.

Glad you are OK though.
Bike can have a full make-over on his insurance. It'll need a pair of cans won't it etc?
You on the other hand wouldn't have wanted a 'full makeover' I assume so glad you were:-
a) lucky to not get hurt (but don't forget your neck hurts now and your helmet hit the ground so new one required etc)
and b) had a decent 'get-involved' witness!!!
Good luck.

iam glad to hear your ok its good to hear you had a witness your bike can be fixed and by the sounds or it you were lucky that the 4x4 didnt ride over you, i fractured my left collar bone 6 weeks ago on a b6 at 10 mph 2 school kids ran out from behind a parked car on an frosty road and i had to do an emergency stop they ran off and left me sitting in the road £40 to fix my b6 though
wheres the road kill............?
iam hungry!!!!!
iam hungry!!!!!
Thanks for the good wishes, folks. It's pretty cut and dried, so I'll handle this myself. What is a bit disturbing is the number of calls I've had from various organisations who were given my details by my insurer eBike. One repairer, one legal firm and two who want to rent me a car while the bike is off the road. I only called eBike to notify them, not to make a claim. Hmm.

These companies just love no fault accidents 'cos they can rack up huge bills while your bike or car etc are being repaired.
I have just had one on a car that was lent after a lorry scored the side of mine (me static. Him cutting off a corner at a rounabout) and the cheeky bu**ers took 250ukp as a charge that I had to pay. Took my credit card company 3 months to sort that one. Worst was though a few years back when I had my BMW co car ar$e ended while again stationary in outside lane of M25 as we were all stopped for further accident ahead. Guy was fiddling with his radio he said and then looked up and BANG!.
Anyway, a fairly quick repair was thought to be in order so insurance co said go ahead on my car (worth about 14,000ukp). Cut a long story short it took months and the repair bill went from 2,800 to 9,500ukp. If that's not bad enough the car hire went to something like 9,700ukp!!!!!! Turns out the car hire (ie. like for like) was 175ukp.............................per day!!!
Now wonder insurance is high.

Bump!
A quick postscript. Third Party accepted liability so TP insurance company finally acknowledges my existence. The motor engineer calls on the 'phone, and the conversation was along these lines;
MoE - How much is your bike worth?
Me - (Cautious) Couldn't say. Isn't that your job?
MoE - Is it likely to be a write-off?
Me - Nope.
MoE - OK, I'll just check the value in Glass's Guide and then I'll probably fax your dealer and OK the repairs.
Me - You don't want to see the bike?
MoE - No, I don't know anything about motorbikes
And he went away and faxed the dealer, just like he said he would.
Very strange. But not as strange as Drive Assist who don't seem to understand "No, thank you."
