Nearly finishing servicing my SP. What a bloody nightmare

Getting the front cam cover off involved removing nearly everything off the front of the bike, including the RHS radiator. Plus I only smashed the front plug cap trying to get it out. Replacement Â£22 + vat!!. After all that the clearances were fine - which I guess is a good thing.

I can usually service a car in a couple of hours, but I've been 3 days (off and on) on this.

On the plus side it has given me a better chance to appreciate what a brilliant and well made piece of engineering the SP is.

Time to give it some punishment before the weather breaks

You can buy mine if you like and rebuild the engine? No? Thought not!

Just fine mate, have got the dolls made up already, just waiting for a delivery of extra long needles! Oh and a new bike but more of that in a fortnight........

Well done Jaglifter

I've just been doing the 16,000 service on my Storm. The valve clearances were all OK apart from one, and that was ( one of the inlet valves) on the rear cylinder so easy to access, so I've now replaced that shim. The only hold up was I had to order it in, but it only took a day

I must admit Mellis I was a bit surprisd.
It's not often you hear of a modern 4 stroke needing new rings. Did the garage say why/how they might of gone?

Weeellll, they didn't actually take the engine apart as all i asked for was a diagnostic. They came back after a compression test and said that it was "most likely" the rings (both) and could not be the valve seals. I don't know enough about engines to do anything about it so i have to take the only option open to me.......

Probably a valve being 'just' cracked open by the wrong shim now in place (unleaded fuel creates valve seat recession more than leaded fuel used to).
Someone will get a nice motor!!!
