That's how I adjust mine, obviously if you have a tight spot (a spot where the chain will be tighter than the rest of it) in it you need to find that first then set your adjustment at that point, I think Haynes recommend a movement of between 30mm and 40mm.Stratman wrote:Take the slack measurement when she's on the sidestand.

Chain tension should be measured with the bike on its sidestand and taken in between the front and rear sprocket...Manual says 30-40mm...By the picture I was not sure if that meant the measurement from where the slack goes down and up...But a good rule of thumb is about 1 in away from the swingarm..
