Compressed by your weight on the saddle is best I have found as that's its normal running condition!!!

tighten it till its so tight then sit on it

if ya doin a good speed and it snaps taking lots of plastic and magnesium bits with it then its a fraction too tight

if ya in 6th at 10k rpm and not moving but listening to the symphony of 152 links of chain 'stroking' the rear sprocket its a tad loose

Take the slack measurement when she's on the sidestand. Trust me, previous chain (with Scotoiler) lasted 35,000 miles.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

That's how I adjust mine, obviously if you have a tight spot (a spot where the chain will be tighter than the rest of it) in it you need to find that first then set your adjustment at that point, I think Haynes recommend a movement of between 30mm and 40mm.

Chain tension should be measured with the bike on its sidestand and taken in between the front and rear sprocket...Manual says 30-40mm...By the picture I was not sure if that meant the measurement from where the slack goes down and up...But a good rule of thumb is about 1 in away from the swingarm..
