Hi all,
I have a problem with my VTR, it has an intermittant misfire, yesterday it was fine for the first 15 miles then kept going onto 1 cylinder for a few secs then back on to 2 when I stopped it was running on both, and was fine then for the next 5 miles when it happened again, Seems like a fuel starvation problem but a friend of mine says it might be a coil on its way out. Any suggestion ?
Misfire.
Welcome aboard stormin by day
Your friend's suggestion of a ht coil breaking down is a possibility, so is a faulty spark plug or a spark plug cap
What you really need to do is work out which cylinder it's not firing on when it happens, that way it will be easier to locate the problem.
I would have thought a fuel starvation problem would have been there all the time, but things like a split in the vacuum pipe to the fuel tap have been known to happen, also the diaphragm in the fuel tap can need replacing but they normally last a long time
Cheers,
Chris.

I had to replace my front plug cap. When I did I noticed that the half inch or so where the screw goes into the HT lead had become a bit distended, so I trimmed that off and screwed the connectors front and rear into fresh lead so to speak.
It may be as simple as that?

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
