Hi,
Was just putting my standard air filter back in to sort out my bike until i get the dynojet kit...when i thought i would wip the top off the rear carb and have a look at the slide and needle see if theres any visible wear....jesus! was attacked by the slide spring....what a beast...its looks far toooo long and was wondering if someone may have been in there already tampering!...measured it at 265mm long does this sound right??....lot longer than any ive seen before and a total bitch to get back in correctly...is this normal ?
I was going to have a look at the front to compare but realised it was gona take a while to get down to it and the sun was shining so will leave that for a rainy day.
Cheers
Ian

that's about right, have you put it back in yet cos it's a git. Once you do get it in make sure the diaphram has seated correctly and the both slides close together at the same speed. If they are still out don't bother looking at the slide wear check out the emulsion tube wear from the needle. If it looks like an egg then it's wearing out. It's the brass hole the needle goes into.

Ah well thats ok then....tis a long bugger though ( ooer ) yer its all back together now ....emulsion tubes looked fine thankfully, will be taking carbs off completley this week for a good check over before dynojetting.

carb spring
Scarey aint it, suprized there wernt a boxing glove on the end of it!
I had the same experience when I fitted stage1 dynojet kit couple of days ago, came to refit diaphram and spring it didnt want to know
Consulted the old Haynes manual which for once proved usefull and it all became obvious
here we go;
1. ensure slide is pushed up through the diaphram (it looks like upside down bowl)
2. start to slide the slide into the carb but dont let it go in all the way. (use your finger to stop it from other end)
3. now you will find the diapram seal is easier to locate.
4. take the tw@ of a spring and inch by inch coil it into the lid. position it over top of carb and let it jump onto the slide part, take your time!!! At this point in time the slide should be approx half way down its travel.
5. finally locate top onto carb, jobs a good un
Hope this makes some sense and helps!
