New Firestorm Owner

Post by VTR_Andy »

Hi,

I brought a 99 Firestorm about 3 weeks ago, unfortunately I only managed 56 miles before the dreaded front CCT let go.
The bike has done 13k.
Next day it went back to the shop and has been there since !!!
Hopefully I will get it back next weekend, with a freshly rebuilt head etc.

Anyway, here are some pics and I look forward to getting it back and posting when I finally manage to get my hands dirty.

Bitter-sweet, Andy.

But welcome to the deep end :D
At least you have us

Look forward to hearing some more positive escapades when you pair are reunited.
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?

Evening Andy. At least you'll have fresh cct's in now and wont have to worry about them.

Sorry to learn your VTR feel victim to the infamous "curse of the red ones" 8) In all seriousness, welcome aboard and hopefully the CCT situation will not drain the pocketbook too much. Enjoy the ride :)

At least you have us
What consolation!

Hopefully you bought from a dealer so have warranty? I know its been said umpteen times before, but the old proverb about not ruining the ship for a ha'porth of tar was never more apposite than the Honda FireStorm CCT!
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

It's the first time I have brought anything from a dealer, it was just quick and easy (lol) and pretty cheap too.

They gave us 3 months engine and gearbox warranty.
He tried to argue that the CCT is a "consumable" and not covered but after doing only 56 miles and having it less than 24 hours he couldn't say too much.

I have been lurking around this forum for a month or so, and was planning to change both CCT's anyway as soon as possible.
Shame I never got a chance to use a tank of fuel, nevermind start changing bits !!

So, the good news is that I have picked the bike up.
Bad news is that it's not running too well :(

The said they changed the CCT and 2 new valves.
However the bike doesn't feel right and has lost lots of power and big flat spots over 6k rpm.

As I didn't want it off the road for another 4 weeks, I decided to check the cam timing and also compression test, both checked out fine.

Other than taking it back *again*, any ideas? I thought maybe they didn't rebalance the carbs but it could be that they didn't reshim the cams....

hmmm...
