bag of nails

Post by jstring »

Hello again everyone. And thanks to everyone who helped me out with the fuel tap question last week (anti clockwise is ON).

I cleaned and stripped my carbs today and cleaned and stripped my fuel tap (it had actually gunked up and stuck the vaccum mechanism shut).

Started the bike and it ran :D but ran very rough :( with backfires and everything. Now my firestorm almost never does that, so I had a good look around and noticed fuel pouring out of the front carb fuel chamber breather hose.

This was annoying, since I had made a special effort to strip the float bowls and clean them out.

Anybody have any pointers as to where I might have gone wrong? The floats and valves seemed to be working fine.

It'll only do that if the float has 'sunk' so did you catch it when reassembling it all and stop it operating correctly?

Thanks LotusSevenMan.

I figured as much but it is nice to have it confirmed that that is the only likely cause before I go in there again.

I stripped the float bowls and cleaned the valves and seats in them so I could have caught something and the front one was pretty gunky maybe I didn't get everthing out. Oh well, more new gaskets then......
