Re: VTR1000F - 1999 for sale

Oh dear me Cybercarl, what do you think it is, a T140?! (that was a Triumph I think) To have an oil splatter like that it really would have to be circa 1960 <> British... I did think when I saw the water "evidence" in the photos someone would make something of it, chuffed I wasn't let down...

au contraire Kev, it's the red'uns that go too fast, well, to fast for my common sense. It needs to go before I fall foul of the radar!

VTR1000F - 1999 for sale

It is with great sadness that I am selling my Storm.. Year of manufacture = 1999 Mileage = 38,624 Colour = Red (but you can see that!) It is a standard bike apart from the fairing which is quite a nice one. It has manual cam tensioners and the standard pipes have had the end baffles removed, sounds ...

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July

Thanks Al for hosting the workshop day, for the tea\coffee\hot dogs\burgers etc. And thank you to all for being so welcoming and knowledgeable! I would have liked to join you on the ride out but had to get home, the bike is MUCH improved with the stock main jets fitted, it did do its harsh running t...

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July

Hi - is the workshop day still on for the 21st July please?

I would like to attend for advice and possible valve clearance check\adjustment. Do I recall there being talk of a kit of parts for shimming?

Oh yeah, where in Solihull would I find you?

Cheers - Chris aka Bucklandswifty

Re: Cold indicators

Thanks Wicky & Tony - I will check the wiring and lamp holders as suggested and report my findings. I did look through many of the filtered entries regarding indicators, whilst some had similar problems there were no definitive solutions.

Cheers - Chris

Re: Cold indicators

Not sure what I am to get from the link, other than I have mentioned this before. I have the correct wattage bulbs in the indicators, the problem is lag time before they flash as apposed to flashing too fast. I will practice the old method of arm extension to get round the problem!

Cold indicators

Hi All - I have an annoying problem with my indicators, when the weather is cold ( <5 deg C ) when selected, either left or right, they take around 6 to 8 seconds to start. The colder it is the longer they take. Once started they flash at the correct speed. The delay is directly proportional to the ...

Re: Trouble hot starting

I know you don't mention anything about cct's, but when I fitted and over tightened manual cct's the result was exactly as you describe. Do you have manual ccts's?

Re: drops a cylinder

Finally found the misfire was due to either the ICU or the amplifier unit. I got replacements from Ebay, fitted them and the misfire was gone. Frontrow Motorcycles checked the bike over and found it was in very good condition, compression tests 165 front and 160 rear. Cam chain tension was spot on a...

Re: Indicators flashing to fast help please

Switch cleaner is the right thing. I have a similar issue with my indicators, when it's cold ( <5C ) they take around 4 seconds to come on, temperatures above this they come straight on. I have cleaned with switch cleaner but no change. I am thinking it must be something to do with metals contractin...

Re: drops a cylinder

I hear what you’re saying Wicky re backing out 1\4 to 1\2 turn - I found that with the cam cover off and winding the tensioner in by finger and thumb until a moderate amount of resistance was felt then backing out 1\2 a turn it was still not giving the 5mm to 8mm deflection at the midpoint between...

Re: drops a cylinder

Thanks again Tony. I will have Front Row Motorcycles check it out. I am sure the cct's did not fail, the oil starvation is a real possibility though. What cannot be stressed too much is how easy it is to over tighten the manual cct's by hand, just moderate finger and thumb turning gets them way too ...

Re: drops a cylinder

Thanks for the replies Chris & Tony. I am hoping to finish the Stick Coil mods tonight and test. I have a sneaking suspicion that rings or valves have been damaged. When the bike is running the misfire sounds almost as if there were another detonation going on, hard to describe really. Is the wa...

Re: drops a cylinder

Hi Chris – Thanks for the information, I am 99% certain that my valve timing is correct having fitted manual cct’s. I did take the front cam cover off to make absolutely sure the marks on the cam sprockets were aligned with the head correctly and remembered them paointing away from each other an...
