Re: URGENT TECHIE HELP NEEDED guys..It's driving us nuts!!
Firstly, the bike looks bloody lovely. Like the white on the belly pan. Any-hoo, my wifes Ducati Monster S4 (sorry) started to run like a sack o' poop, particularly at higher revs and after many fears it turned out to be the regulator/rectifier heating too much and not giving the correct voltage to ...

Re: Slow turning over, VERY corroded starter connections
Hi Scott, Yes, the bolt is obvious. With the starter motor in your hand, undo and remove the long bolts holding the unit together, then gently twist the top and bottom until they loosen. Once loosened from the central body slowly remove the contact head cover ( the section that bolted to the bike ) ...

Re: probable regulator / rectifier issue
I've been having this issue the last 5 months thinking the worst, RR, battery, alternator. I bought a new battery, fired up beautifully but on a stop start petrol fill the engine was sluggish to start. WTF ? Check the bolt securing the live wire on the starter casing (under a rubber hood), mine was ...

Re: Slow turning over, VERY corroded starter connections
woo-hoo !! She's ALIVE !! So, it all came apart lovely like and I "found" a random large spanned round screw headed bolt in the Q. The importance of the large span was that I cut a slice off the head which enabled the new bolt to sit in the starter casing without rotating when tightening i...

Re: Slow turning over, VERY corroded starter connections
. . . right, I'm getting cocky now. starter's off so I thought I'd dismantle it and as a result of all the mechanism NOT springing out all over the place, I'm off to B&Q for a replacement bolt !! Cheers all and I'll let you know how I got on tomorrow. ps I've never opened up any form of motor be...

Re: Slow turning over, VERY corroded starter connections
Thanks for your quick replies.
I think I'll try the hacksaw route first and then if I have to take the starter off anyway I may as well get the blackbird one on ebay, looks tidy.
Good advice,
Ged

Slow turning over, VERY corroded starter connections
Hi all, I need to sort this quickly but worried about forcing the wrong nut. Basically the thread that comes out from the starter is corroded to mush including the final retaining nut, so badly that I can't make out any of it. Does the whole thread unscrew from the starter body allowing me to replac...

Re: R/R, battery, or something else ?
Thanks again cybercarl and wicky, new RR it is then and probably new battery next pay. I've been looking at batteries on flea buy and the battery I have now is CBTX12-BS for my 53 plate but am looking at a motobat MBTX9U to replace it. What is the official battery size for my bike ? Cheers, and have...

Re: R/R, battery, or something else ?
Thanks all. So, £50 in the right hand, £0 in the left. What should the RR be charging at, consistant voltage and all. Mine drifts from 14.7 to 15.0 volts with lights on. Is this too much and have caused battery fry ? Or is it normal. I've read some posts that have said that if the RR was on the bl...

Re: R/R, battery, or something else ?
Thanks Wicky. I've got a finned RR on it already and all the obvious wires are very secure. Took it for a spin yesterday and pulled over every 20 minutes to check the voltage input and battery temperature and all was well. I guess I'm going to replace the battery because it looks fairly old and hope...

R/R, battery, or something else ?
I know I know, this is a well chewed subject but my bike isn't giving any obvious answers. The battery takes and holds good charge from my optimate, 12.9v after a week standing outside under wraps. It turns over and starts rapidly and runs beautifully. So, a 70 mile ride to a regular meet up (willin...
