Re: Carb rebuild woes... Won't rev past 3k

Sounds like one of the carb slide diaphragms isn't seated properly. Yes.... Thought had crossed my mind. Perhaps I should have run it up with the airbox off first... No need to start, just remove the filter, open the slides fully, release, and check if they return the same time or for...

Re: Airbox Mods

difference between Pipercross and paper filter could be 1-3 bhp on rear wheel :) I don´t know what would I choose, always been fan of paper filter, but in case of vtr, there is gain when you change the filter.

Re: Airbox Mods

Depends of what you have inside carbs, there must be some changes otherwise engine would run with lot of backfires and rev stalling. For aftermarket cans, I would start as follow, Pipercross: 48 pilots 2.25f 2.5r turns out, 182f 185r mains, needle washers 1mm and 1.5mm. (Dynojet needles groove 3 plu...

Re: Airbox Mods

I run pipercross on stg1 engine, but it takes some time to get it work. KN filter should be a bit better for low end and midrange, but I like the feel of clear free revving engine I have never achieved with KN.

Re: Airbox Mods

Regarding Roger lidless airbox, it has potential of 5-7 bhp on rear wheel with stage1 engine (higher cr, more agressive cams, etc ...). But on std engine, there will be lot of headache only. For std engine, I would clear the tank for crankcase breathers and use external pod filters, try to use diffe...

Re: what the actual fuk

There is no point in swapping the engine, when everything including wire loom was changed on blue one. I still believe there is some problem in air/fuel intake routes or vac hoses.
Seems to me better idea to have one good bike, and for blue one it is time to pay some labour and not more parts.

Re: carb springs

I found that right technique makes it easier too. Just press the spring into carb cover using phillips screwdriwer as guide, release 3 or 4 ridges off, mount spring to the slide, carefully release the spring, tighten the cover, check the operation, and its done.

Re: carb springs

Dynojet springs are breeze to work with, compared to honda springs, but they are softer. I have two sets of springs with the same lenght as dj springs. One is similar or slightly stiffer to oem, second is 20% stiffer than first one. I run stiffer on front and oem spec on rear, it is working well (fi...
