Well thanks for your help guys, looks like the VTR is kaput then - haven't got the time or skills to do it myself and sounds uneconomical to send to a garage.

Hi all

Has anyone attempted replacing the gearbox? How hard, how long did it take? Tempted to take it to a professional mechanic but don't want to get mugged off. My bike slips out of gear at anything over about 5k rpm and I have sourced a replacement.

Looks like I've bought your old Storm if I'm not seeing things! Bought it off a guy in London a couple of weeks ago. eBay bargain and it's now going though a bit of a face lift.

Glad you asked - couple of points; 1) was all running fine (130 mile trip home) when opened it up on the final straight in second and it slipped out of gear. Will be changing the oil and looking the clutch cable before I ride it again. Hopefully ...

See on the eBay pic that it's got a VTR1000.org sticker on it so someone on here might have had it / knows a bit about the history. Will post a pic after I pick it up and see if anyone recognises it!
