"I knew that you meant Fork bottoms,"

I knew you knew you know

Hmmm! Plasticote. Easy on and easy touch up. Got me thinking.

Yes I thought the plastic thingies were a push fit but I didn't want to bust 'em finding out I was wrong.

Thanks to all.

Re: Restoration questions

Thanks Wicky and Sirch345. Great posts and I love that 'gallows' lift. And you have answered another query ( does Nitromoors melt aluminium and it seems to not do that). I hadn't thought too much about colours yet. I like grey as it looks 'original', I like black as it feels 'practical' and I like g...

Re: Restoration questions

Yeah Yeah I was talking fork bottoms .... :eek2 After de-crudding can they be re lacquered with spray on lacquer ( like Halfords sell) or is something 'posh' required? Oil pipes look like they're covered in chrome cornflakes .... :( Given that the bike has been standing for a couple of months has th...

Restoration questions

Just pretend I am deeply ignorant. ( I am) Forks, Frame, Swinging arm. - Are these sand cast aluminium and lacquered? What's the best way to clean them up and bring back to new looking. Oil cooler pipes are rusted to hell should I strip off and paint or renew with chrome ones? All must do, don't do ...

Re: silly part 2

Now that's a good idea. The cradle may even catch the pin for you as it's knocked out. If it fell on the floor you would need more than eyes to find it again This version was used for pin replacement. I held the roll pin with long nose pliers and tapped it with a hammer and once started I finished ...

Re: silly part 2

about 2pm the old eyes switched on a bit and I had to choose Telly or Bike, Bike or Telly? And then .......back in the garage I made a Mk11 CCT cradle. Me not having three hands I feel the need to support the little critter and hold it still while I reinsert the roll pin without bending something. I...

Re: silly part 2

Many thanks for your kind responses. One problem I didn't mention is that I am suffering from an eye problem. GP thinks it's temporary ( I hope he's right) I have blurred vision and cannot go into sunlight or any bright lights. I took my notebook PC into the garage to refer to as I was working on th...

silly part 2

Right then I followed the hints and tips and stripped the bike down enough to get the CCTs out. I made a locking key as per the Haynes manual and withdrew the rear CCT. I made a hole in a piece of wood to take the roll pin and used a ground off little Allen key to drift out the roll pin. Tap, Tap, T...

How silly

Being a recent Firestormer everything is new and each day brings a new puzzle I only rode the bike once for 100 mile trip before I read the CCT woes posts. Following the excellent advice here I have been pulling it apart with a view to attempting the stopper mod or fitting manual CCTs. I didn't get ...

Lucky I don't need it yet

Before I ride the bike I must mod the CCTs. I sent off to M&P for a pair of bike stands and I ordered a bike lift off fleabay. Stands arrived in two days and they are now under the bike. The bike lift folk phoned last week to agree a delivery date I suggested last Friday was not good due to the ...

Re: Tax discs going eventually

My inner pessimist fears this will lead to an explosion of "number plate inspectors" with a corresponding hike in fines and 'points' for nonconformity.

Things never do get better.

Re: Benny's Family Xmas card.

A point well raised and well answered. my son ( ooops how the hell did I do that???) asked why are you writing to someone you don't know? We know don't we. but it's hard to explain. So I wrote this. On the road amidst the trucks and cars a single light a twinkling star another biker from afar a spli...
