Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

Pull them off again and set it. Or just leave it, it's closer than it was before  Pull what off? I don't suppose you are mad enough to think I'm going to remove the airbox an carbs and all pipework again are you!!! :eek2 Errrr, nope! I can, after a little cursing and fiddling, just about find...

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

One thing I have found..... It's dam bloody hard (verging on impossible) to get multimeter probes onto the top two metal prongs in the TPS sensor, when it's all back and mounted on the bike. Can't see sod all. Fiddling with fingers and probes, poking them blindly into the black plastic surround hopi...

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

Hi tempest Yes, it's vacuum. The natural state of an engine is to want to rev its tits off. We stop this (control this progressively) with the twist grip. This is why it's called a throttle, as it strangles the motor to a varying degree. With the engine wanting to pull like crazy, there is low pres...

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

Just something I want to check............... The small pipe that attaches to the back of the fuel tap (coming from near a carb) and makes the Diaphragm move in the fuel tap that starts the fuel running into the carbs/engine. I presume that it creates a vacuum (Sucks) to make this happen, and when i...

Re: Bikes been sitting too long, now does not want to start.

Puzzled that you said you changed your coolant a while ago then now ask how to access the radiators? Taking the fairing off is a 10 minute job to access what you need to do a coolant change. VTR1000F (Superhawk) Firestorm Service Manual PDF > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1...

Re: Bikes been sitting too long, now does not want to start.

Great news that it runs now... Result  And like hawk said, there is no need to pale end the coolant system, but if you are topping up do it via the rad cap hidden under the right side faring rather than the overflow bottle Thanks Wicky Thanks 8541Hawk Thanks AMCQ46 Ok, understood about the...

Re: Bikes been sitting too long, now does not want to start.

Thanks, yes I saw the ball bearing gizmo :) TBH, I've not touched that, and from me very carefully looking at the butterflies, when I was doing other aspects of the carb clean, physically they seem very well matched. If I may go back to the coolant issue. I did change it a while ago, my query really...

Re: Bikes been sitting too long, now does not want to start.

Just needed to post this............ Since taking carbs all apart, ultrasonic cleaning all jets, and a whole tin of carb cleaner !!!!, cotton buds and LOTS of time, to get all super clean. got and modded some new stainless screws and made a long custom allen ket driver (to replace the silly screw he...

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

I'm going though the same thing at the moment -> getting a long stood bike on the go. I measured my TPS and it came up at 900. A curious number, exactly 900. I wonder why the factory aimed for these numbers at build. Emissions maybe, but then why would spec sheets say 500 +/- 100. I can only guess ...

Re: Fuel Tap Leaking when turned on - need a repair kit I gu

If you replace the filter with inline ones and have no filter in the tank all the crap at the bottom of the tank will go though to your filters, more likely to block the tap, you'll need to clean them often and fine particles will get through. The standard filter is best for the Job. I grumbled at ...

Ok, well they say a picture is worth a thousand words..... :) SO just took some close up photo's..... Methinks it's fairly obvious now from these close ups where the problem is! http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c145/Paul-rs/Website%20Pics/General%20Forum%20Pics/dia-2_zpswuwtmbzt.jpg http://i26.phot...

Re: Fuel Tap Leaking when turned on - need a repair kit I gu

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it all went back together ok. I did clean all metal faces well, and I popped the rubber parts in the ultrasonic and a lot of black was coming from the suspect area. My theory is the rubber was breaking down, but still held in place to a degree, if you see what I mean, and ...

Fuel Tap Leaking when turned on - need a repair kit I guess?

Ok, well, as planned, I took my fuel tap off tonight (slight leak recently). Could not pull filter out with the whole tap as it was stuck mid-way and did not wish to force it (looked old!) Cleaned everything I could do. The internal black rubber diaphragm looked a bit iffy in places, but hoped would...

Re: TPS Adjustment: Was 840 - Now 590 Can't get to 500 - No

You've already got the pipes off as you've removed the tank and carbs. Remove the tap take it apart and clean it out, pop it in the ultrasonic bath once the diaphragm is removed. The fuel filter sits inside the tank where the tap goes, you'll see it when the tap comes off. once you've got the tap b...
