Re: Battery cover?

Because it's missing a part and I'm one of those people that has to have things in order. :D :D :D

True, I could of just covered it with a cut-out bit of soft plastic. It's all good don't worry.

Re: Different keys?

Well, I managed to get the old fuel tank lid lock out. I drilled a pilot hole all the way through - about 7-8mm diameter. Then I tried a 14mm bit from a drill set that I bought of ebay. It drilled a bit, but the tip didn't last. You get what you pay for! So yesterday I bought a 15mm bit (from a trad...

Re: Battery cover?

Well, I managed to snag a 2nd hand battery cover off an ebay seller in the USA.

Wasn't cheap - the actual part US$11 and postage and import duty was around US$33.

davidsilverspares.co.uk wanted this...

Re: E10 Petrol

I run E10 in my Toyota Aurion (glorified V6 Camry). BUT the car is designed to handle it. Even says so on the fuel flap. An old bike (like my 99 VTR) isn't designed for it. I'll be running 95 or 98 octane unleaded. (We have E10, 91, 95, 98 at most petrol stations here in Australia. You can get E85 o...

Re: Everything there under the fuel tank?

[You are correct as in, no hose is meant to go on that outlet facing the floor. Regarding your K&N air filter, swapping it for a standard OEM Honda item would be a good idea unless you enjoy pulling the carbs apart and swapping jets etc and possibly dyno time in getting the K&N to work prop...

Re: Everything there under the fuel tank?

I'm not sure how much searching you have done on here about using a K&N air filter? So what I will point out is, these bikes are quite susceptible to changes in air flow, and it is a well known fact the carbs will need a reasonable amount of tuning to get a K&N air filter to work without an...

Everything there under the fuel tank?

Hi Getting a new tyre tomorrow. Will be hacking at the fuel tank lid when I get the bigger drill bits. But, for now I want to take the tank off to check/replace the air filter. I order a K&N filter of Amazon and it arrived in the mail eariler in the week. Some snapshots from under the tank. To r...

Re: Front brake calipers - rebuild?

Actually, a mate of mine told me to give a small piece of plastic a go first - it's called "Sealmate" It gets under the lip of the seal and removes any dirt etc. I think it's worth trying first. I still need to clean up the caliper etc and get a new front tyre but can do that after. https:...

Re: Front brake calipers - rebuild?

Full strip down. Clean the pistons & inspect if the corrosion isn't too deep you can dress them with a whetstone... Oily ??? Its not the fork seal leaking is it ? That will be the only place oil can be comeing from at the front. Correction. On 2nd glance it does not smell like brake fluid. I th...

Front brake calipers - rebuild?

Hi While I'm waiting on a set of drill bits to arrive to attack the fuel cap, I though I'd remove the front wheel to get a new front tyre for registration. All went well, I used ratchet straps to lift the front wheel, thereby allowing me to remove the front axle. BUT left front caliper is oily, as a...

Re: Different keys?

Probably a silly question and a bit late now I know. Couldn't you have asked the previous owner if they had a key for the fuel tank :?: Chris. Good point. But I tend to think that my problem was half the reason why he was trying to sell it! I assumed (which makes an ASS of U and ME) that the locks ...

Re: Different keys?

I'm having real troubles with this lock. Tried the original keys again - no go Tried the flathead screwdriver trick - no go. How far does it have to go in? The centre part of the lock doesn't turn. Also tried drilling it out - testing my new air tools and compressor. I can drill with a 5mm bit but h...
