Importing from USA

Has anyone on here had any experience of importing a bike from the USA? Are there any restrictions and is it major grief to get a machine registered etc in this country and are there importers that would take care of uplift and crating up etc ? Any info would be helpful Thanks in advance. Cheers A.M.
