Re: Exhaust fitting trouble
Yes best not scrimp on the exhaust gaskets https://p198.p4.n0.cdn.getcloudapp.com/items/6quxO8ZX/vtr-exhaust-parts.jpg?v=dfbe0e29977878277445ca9031adc70d Remember to remove the old crush copper header/manifold seal - it gets flattened & sooted up so its camouflaged in the head, and will need pi...

Re: Exhaust fitting trouble
Thanks MacV. I've spent so long on it now I'm going to start all over again and do as you advise. It came off so I'm guessing it must go on 😁 Are you reusing the doughnut gaskets again from the header to the mufflers? Also are you reusing the gasket at the head/ exhaust manifold? I ask this because...

Re: chainguard
You still needing a chain guard?
I just took mine off during the rebuild of the bike and it's getting replaced with a hugger with built in chain guard.
Let me know. I may get rid of mine.

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Minor update and last one for another month while I'm on the road again. I went ahead and marked the nipple on the gas tank that should be where the small hose with the coupling tube goes so I get it right when I put it all back together. I've got a petcock rebuild kit I hope to install next time I'...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Those need to have a filter attached. They feed the back side of the slide diaphragm allowing it to move. The reason for the filter is that because of the lift holes in the slide, it is a direct path into the engine. If left open (not attached to the airbox or the foam sub-filters are missing) you ...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Thanks Chris for the help.
I'll see about the hose today as I have enough time to do so and although I really didn't want to remove the carbs for better access for the tray removal I guess it's got to be done to do it right.
Thanks again.

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Oh and as far as that oil leak I found out what the cause was for it. Removing the chain guard and kick stand revealed the original owner NEVER cleaned the crap from the chain lube and it was like it wasn't cleaned since the bike was new. It took an hour to literally clean the chain guard and the ki...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
one of your petrol tap hoses is in the wrong place! the hose on the 6 o'clock boss is a tank breather and should be fitted to the smaller of the 2 nipples that come out of the tank to the right hand side of the tap. the 6 o'clock nipple should have nothing attached to it, its just an atmospheric ve...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
50 posts. :Beer1: :Smoke3: Onward we go as I have only one more day to play bike mechanic until the freightshaker calls me back to the road for a month. More progress and some good news that my rear shock from DMr Performance Suspension is done and being shipped. I also got the front fo...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Now for the air box and all the fun with modifying the box etc. I did purchase a modded air box from someone here on the forums and they did a great job on sealing everything in the box. I went a bit further with it and looks much better. Here's my factory box I just opened up. 50265836-F50B-4E1F-95...

Re: Say hello to my little friend.
Got a bit more done today in the short time I had so I finally removed the gas tank and marked all the hoses off the fuel Petcock and used small colored tie wraps to make sure I put everything back where it belongs when I reassemble everything. I'll be replacing both fuel lines with more standard au...
