If there was room for two, is the gudgeon pin shorter than it should be- is one just a spacer?

I haven't come across a repairer for these but you should be able to find a secondhand set easily enough.

If you can read the resistor, you can simply solder one on as a bridge for the blown one. Of course, if the fault still exists, you might blow the replacement, too.
