New VTR carbs owner

Post by Volvorsport »

Ey up.

Forums are a blast from the past.

I've got a set of VTR carbs on my road rally car so I'm looking for tuning advice/parts.

Obviously I need to make them both the jet wise so that would be a start

Well the fist thing you need to do is put some filters on the black tubes on the right side of the carbs in the pics.
These feed the back side of the diaphragms(slides). The issues is the slides have lift holes, so that open tube is a direct path into the engine.

Thanks id realised that . I've got some filter socks for the longer type trumpets

Which holes do you blank off to make the slides come up quicker .

Could do with some dynojet needles and jets if anybody has some ? :D

Its a volvo 360 . 2 litre redblock so sized 500cc per pot . I am planning to build a 2.5 engine aswell

Cheers

to get the slides to open quicker you would either install a different (lighter and\or shorter) spring in the slide or add lift holes to the end of the slide.

Thanks . I'd read some holes you could blank off at the entrance to the carb inlet also ?

That can be a tough one.....I would get some penetrating oil (not sure of the brand names you guys have) and give them a good soak and let them sit for a bit.

Then take a left handed drill bit and drill into what is left of the screw hoping it will catch and spin it out.

Ok . I can't make the damn thing idle

I'm trying to work out how the idle system works. I'm assuming the hole before the throttle is for the choke only . It'll only run with the choke pulled out ..

Any ideas ?

This might be the air bleeds - three brass tubes visible on the opposite side to the slides. One of these might need blocking if you find the A/F ratio is lean on part throttle openings.
